over 2 years. Our clients tell us they like that it's easy to use
and reliable.
CompanionLink is a conduit that
provides one-step synchronization with your Palm handheld organizer.
Here is the Main screen
for the address book sync.
Notice the many options you have to bring in your GoldMine data.

Contact Information
CompanionLink will move your GoldMine contact information to the built-in
Address Book application on the Palm organizer. You may then edit the
information, or add new contacts, and the information will be synchronized
back to your GoldMine database.
The synchronized information includes:
- Name, Company, Title, Address, City,
State, Zip and Country
- Five telephone numbers of your choice
- Four "Custom Fields" of your
choice
- Notes, history and attachment
information.
With CompanionLink, you can specify the number of contact notes to attach
to the contact information, to be visible in the Palm Address Book
application. You may also choose to import completed history records to
the Palm. The Palm address book can hold 8000 characters, or about ten
notes that are 10 lines long.
Calendar Information
Our favorite feature is
the ability to decide what types of activities sync to the date book and
which go to the to do list. With Companion Link you are in control.

GoldMine Appointments, Activities and Calls are synchronized with the
built in Date Book application on the Palm Organizer. You can edit,
reschedule, and create new appointments on the Palm organizer and those
items will be synchronized with your GoldMine calendar. In addition to the
standard GoldMine calendar items, CompanionLink Professional also allows
you to map "Forcasted Sales" and "Other Actions" to
your choice of the Palm Datebook or To-Do list.
The calendar information that is synchronized includes:
To-Do items
GoldMine To-Do items are synchronized with the built in To-Do application
on the Palm Organizer. You can edit, reschedule, and create new To-Do
items on the Palm organizer, and those items will be synchronized with
your GoldMine To-Do list.
The To-Do information that is synchronized includes:
Adding a new contact note
To add a new note via the Palm Organizer, add it to the Bottom of
the existing notes (your cursor will be there by default). When
synchronizing, CompanionLink will date and time stamp your new note and
move it to the top of the list. CompanionLink is
the only conduit that supports two way synchronization of notes and
enables you to see history and information or contact notes on your
PalmPilot
Creating appointments and to-do items on the handheld that are linked
to Contacts "GoldMine-style."
To create a new "linked" appointment on the Palm, enter the
description on the first line, then create a new line and add the word
"LINK:". You may then enter the contact's name or perform a
"phone-lookup" for the name. The lookup function involves
executing a COMMAND-L on the PalmPilot. To do that, make a slash character
( / ) starting at the bottom left and going to the upper right of the
grafitti window. You will see the word COMMAND in black text above the
grafitti window. Then write the letter L. This allows you to look up the
contact name, which is a lot easier than writing it. The lookup function
is also available by touching the "menu" button and choosing
"Look-Up" from the drop-down "options" menu.
The resulting entry will look like this:
4:00pm Followup phone call
link: Jane Smith (888)555-1234
You can see that the Palm organizer adds the phone number automatically.
However, the word link must be at the start of the second line. When you
synchronize with CompanionLink, the appointment "Followup phone
call" will be put in your GoldMine calendar and linked to the
specified contact.
CompanionLink is the only Palm Conduit that
supports linked contacts for appointments and to-do items.
Limitations on CompanionLink
Repeated Appointments: Versions prior to the 1.1 release of
CompanionLink will not support repeated appointments with the Palm.
Versions 1.1 and later do move repeated appointments from GoldMine to
the Palm.
Deleted Records: A record deleted on the handheld is NOT deleted in
GoldMine This is because it is possible that all records could be deleted
on the handheld, due to battery failure or connection error. We would not
want CompanionLink to see this as an instruction to delete all records in
the GoldMine database. To delete a record you must do so in GoldMine, not
in the handheld organizer.
CompanionLink compared to other commercially available conduits
- CompanionLink can synchronize 1000
records with notes in about 40 seconds, saving you valuable time as
you are walking out the door.
- CompanionLink supports GoldMine
"linked" appointments.
- CompanionLink allows you to exclude
the personal category from synchronization. This allows you to keep
data on the PalmPilot that is backed up in Palm Desktop, but is not
part of your GoldMine database. CompanionLink Professional allows you
to exclude multiple categories.
- CompanionLink allows you to see notes
or history items in the Address Book notepad, so you have more
information at your fingertips.
- CompanionLink works with GoldMine
versions 2.5a and higher, and Palm Desktop 2.0 and higher, and all
Palm organizers.
- CompanionLink Professional allows you
to combine data from different sources into the same Palm application.
You can combine your GoldMine business database with your Outlook
contacts database, and hold both in different areas of the Palm
Address Book.
- CompanionLink is a compact 32 bit
application that does not install any files into your Windows
directory. In this case, smaller means better and more features-like a
swiss watch!
- CompanionLink comes with free
technical support available by calling (541) 412-0300 so you can get a
question answered quickly and accurately.
