GoldMine Basics

 

GoldMine is a low cost but reliable CRM solution. It began in 1988 as the first contact manager designed for the workgroup. Where ACT! was created as a single user program, the creators of GoldMine saw that success in the future would be in sharing data over an office network. The program has continually been enhanced to utilize current technologies.

 

Two Flavors of GoldMine: Corporate Edition (CE) and the New GoldMine Premium Edition. CE has the traditional interface while PE offers a completely new look and feel. Both function very well on networks. Both offer synchronization through GoldSync both offer synchronization to PDAs and Outlook. Both link to MS Word and Excel.

  • CE  Corporate Edition Uses a Microsoft SQL or Dbase backend. Includes MSSQL server and client access licenses, GoldSync, Crystal reports licenses, Answer Wizard, Managers Console, Outlook link. Around $600 per license. Optional iGoldMine, internet access though any browser. GISME Integration to Microsoft Exchange (Optional) exchanges contacts and calendars or GM and Outlook users.

  • PE Premium Edition New look new feel. Easier to navigate. Now with all the features of CE plus an excellent customer service / issue tracking module.

  • SE Formerly Standard Edition or BCM  GoldMine Standard has been discontinued by FrontRange Solutions effective 4/30/2007. Tech.Sell offers complete support for all versions of GoldMine either on site or on-line. Please call to schedule an appointment.

  • When should you upgrade to GoldMine CE or PE

    60+ % of GoldMine users run the Standard (Dbase version).  For single users or smaller groups it’ s a great solution. Problems tend to arise when growing organizations stretch it past it’s limitations. What are the first signs that you’ve taken GoldMine Standard into the deep water?

    • When you have more than 15 active users.

    • When you have more than 15,000 records with active use.

    • If you run a lot of reports or filters on a 15,000 plus database.

    • If you find yourself rebuilding or reindexing regularly.

    • AND THE #1 reason is when your Mailbox table exceeds 1GB in size.

Do-It-Yourself or Hire an Experienced Guide?
 

Do-it-yourself?
For single users, the do it your self approach is great. For a small network, 5 or fewer users, it's ok, assuming you are good at following directions and have some IT experience. If syncing is not involved, you can probably be up and running in a couple of hours. You can handle simple data import from ACT! or Outlook using the built in import wizards.
